When I’m Feeling Jealous by Trace Moroney is a gorgeous book with a flocked and embossed hardcover. 16 pages with colour illustrations throughout will encourage your child’s emotional development and expression.
“Feeling jealous can sometimes make you do silly things but always remember that everyone is special-and that means you too!”
Each of the books in this series has been carefully designed to help children better understand their feelings, and in doing so, gain greater autonomy over their lives. Talking about feelings teaches children that it is normal to feel sad, or angry, or scared at times. With greater tolerance of painful feelings, children become free to enjoy their world, to feel secure in their abilities, and to be happy.
What do you do when your child feels jealous? In Notes for Parents at the back of the book, a child psychologist offers some helpful insights.
Extend Play and Learning
Once you have read the book, ask your child if they have ever felt jealous. If so, ask them to share what made them feel this way. In return, tell them about a time you have felt jealous. Discuss ways that they can start to regulate this feeling and reflect on the strategies suggested in the book.
